Accessible & Assisted Journeys

Accessibility encompasses a wide range of issues from those who are hearing-impaired to guests in wheelchairs or those who just need a bit more assistance as they travel.

Accessible Journeys" covers travelers who manage independently but need accessible infrastructure — step-free routes, wheelchair-friendly transport, accessible accommodation, etc.

"Assisted Journeys" covers travelers who may need a bit extra support along the way — escort services, assistance at airports/stations, sensory impairments, or rooms closest to public areas.

Journeys can generally be tailored for those with physical and/or neuro-diversity needs. Each traveler has different needs. Extensive conversations between the traveler and Born Free planners will ensure that the lodges we recommend will suit your needs. We are here to make your travel dreams a reality.

Things to consider:

Vehicle adaptability

Lodges and hotels with minimal or no steps.

Location of room to the public areas

Handrails on stairs or walkways

Small planes and availability to take wheelchairs

Can dietary requirements be met.

Can you take the necessary or recommended medications that might be required.

We have selected trips that are adjustable to most situations. In order to provide individual needs trips might need to be modified as shown on the website but we will do our best to provide the same experiences. Itineraries that are most adaptable are shown with the lead picture on this article in the photo gallery.

Our experienced team understands what it will take to create specialized journeys. We will collaborate with you to modify any of the itineraries, when at all possible, to turn your trip into a reality. In Africa, all accommodations do not meet the same accessibility standards as the ADA Standards for Accessibility, but we will work with you from airport pickup to your homeward bound flight, to make sure all runs smoothly. Wheelchair 'friendly' properties listed may not be to ADA Standards.
