Antarctica-Small Ship Cruises with Aurora Expeditions

Expeditions and Rich wildlife.

13 Days /12 Nights

Aurora Expeditions world-renowned adventure cruise line founded in 1991 by Australian mountaineer and explorer Greg Mortimer, alongside his wife, Margaret. For over three decades, Aurora has specialized in small-ship, environmentally responsible voyages to some of the planet's most remote and untouched destinations — including Antarctica, the Arctic, and Australia's rugged Kimberley coastline.

Immersive Adventure on Small, Advanced Expedition Ships

What sets Aurora Expeditions apart is its commitment to deeply immersive, activity-focused travel aboard modern, small-capacity ships carrying fewer than 150 passengers. Unlike large traditional cruise ships, Aurora's vessels allow every guest to go ashore together — no rotating groups, no wasted time. The result is more hands-on time in nature and a relaxed, welcoming onboard atmosphere.

Ulstein X-BOW® Technology for a Smoother Voyage

Aurora's purpose-built fleet features the patented Ulstein X-BOW® design — a distinctive inverted bow engineered to cut through waves rather than slam against them. This innovative technology significantly reduces pitching and seasickness, even in notoriously rough waters like the Drake Passage, making for a smoother, more comfortable crossing.

Deluxe Comfort Meets Expedition Spirit

Aurora's ships pair adventure with genuine comfort. Staterooms and suites are beautifully appointed, many featuring private balconies, premium bedding, ensuite bathrooms, and thoughtful touches like heated floors. These are not rugged expedition vessels — they're high-comfort, deluxe ships designed for travelers who want adventure without sacrificing luxury.

The Fleet

Aurora Expeditions' intimate fleet includes the Greg Mortimer, the Sylvia Earle, and the newest addition, the Douglas Mawson — all offering a range of Antarctic itineraries and activities.

Kayaking and sea kayaking

Hiking

Ice climbing

Scuba diving in Antarctic waters

And for those who prefer to stay aboard, there's plenty to enjoy without setting foot off the ship — from wildlife viewing to onboard lectures and lounges with panoramic views.

World-Class Expedition Teams

Every voyage is guided by one of the most experienced expedition teams in the industry — scientists, naturalists, historians, conservationists, and photographers who help guests capture the perfect shot. With decades of experience exploring the polar regions and remote coastlines, their expertise turns every journey into an enriching, unforgettable experience.

Unmatched Wildlife Encounters

Wildlife sightings are a defining highlight of every Aurora voyage — and the key reason Born Free recommends this cruise line above others. Depending on your itinerary, you may encounter:

Penguin colonies and rookeries

Breaching Humpback and Minke whales

Arctic foxes

Walruses

Elephant seals

A wide variety of seabirds

Because Aurora's ships carry fewer guests, the company can adapt itineraries in real time based on local conditions and wildlife activity — maximizing every opportunity for an extraordinary encounter.

Experience the Power of Antarctica

Cruise across ink-blue seas and glass-calm waters past towering icebergs. Search for elephant seals and penguin rookeries. Watch for Humpback and Minke whales breaching offshore. Explore up close by Zodiac boat and kayak. With its staggering abundance of wildlife and raw natural beauty, Antarctica remains one of the most unforgettable destinations on Earth.
