ISLAND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Bartolome - Dramatic lava formations define the raw landscape of this island. The waters are rich in marine life. You will have the chance to snorkel with sea lions, Galapagos penguins, and docile reef sharks.

  • Santiago - The area can provide close encounters with Galapagos fur seals and bird life alike. Walk through tide pools, and study sea urchins, octopus, sponges, and sea stars.
  • Santa Cruz - Stop at the Charles Darwin Research Station. Learn about the efforts of scientists, guides, rangers, and park managers to preserve the unique features of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well the efforts made to nurture more than 5,000 tortoises that have been returned to the wilds.

  • Isabela - The largest of the volcanic islands, with kayaking and deep-water snorkeling. One can swim, walk, or hike ashore, where guests can have a chance to cross the Equator and also see the iguana colony. On board, keep an eye out for whales and dolphins.
  • Fernandina - One of the most pristine tropical islands. Take a hike over relatively recent lava flows, where hundreds of placid marine iguanas make their home. Also, one may see flightless cormorants, and bright orange Lightfoot crabs speckle the black lava rocks, as well as sea lions sunbathing on the beach.

  • Floreana - Established by British whalers in 1793, it is one of the few Galapagos islands inhabited by humans. It is rich in cultural history, including tales of pirates. Snorkel among sea lions, sea turtles, and schools of tropical fish in the clear waters.

  • EspaƱola - The most prolific wildlife sites in the Galapagos. You can site the endemic red and green marine iguanas and the famous blue-footed boobies. Usually, there is a huge colony of sea lions covering the long stretch of fine powdery white sand. Snorkeling in the bay is excellent, as well as hiking.

Further explorations can be arranged to the Amazon and/or Machu Picchu.

Sail aboard the National Geographic 'Islander' on an intimate exploration of the islands. This expedition ship is small enough to reach places larger ships can't. Bask in the equatorial rays or share a sunset cocktail on the covered deck, enjoy nature films, slideshows and presentations in the inviting lounge with a full-service bar, and stargaze at night from the Sky Deck. Equipped with snorkeling gear, a fleet of Zodiacs and kayaks for up-close exploration, plus undersea cameras, the Islander offers countless opportunities to discover the wonders of the world's most intriguing archipelago.

The 164-foot yacht-scale Islander accommodates 48 guests in 24 mahogany and brass-accented cabins, each with a window, ample closet space, a small table and chair, and two single beds (some of which can convert into a queen-size bed). Every cabin features individual climate control and a private bathroom. Eight cabins at the top of the ship have private, glassed-in terraces for expansive views of the passing islands, and two spacious suites feature a wraparound view forward over the bow and to the side of the ship. The dining room serves eclectic cuisine with local flair in a casual atmosphere that offers a chance for guests and guides to mingle.

National Geographic Endeavor II also available for cruising as well as other small boats and catamarans. Your professional safari consultant can provide more details about the boat's standards and amenities, as well as information about mainland hotels and extensions.
