The Tanzania Classic Tented Safari aims is to provide the authentic safari with a high standard of accommodations, food and services. At first properties may look like your typical tented camp, but once inside you'll be whisked away into a very special experience. Tenting is not less expensive than staying in lodges.

Camp standards vary greatly in properties, even when designated deluxe or higher.
Permanent Tented Camps
Generally considered the best for a true high comfort safari experience, permanent camps are smaller occupancy the lodges. They are spacious, fully furnished and have bathrooms ensuite with flush toilets and running water. Some luxury tented camps will still have traditional camp showers to retain the atmosphere of a mobile camp. This will still give you hot and cold water. Walls are made all or partial of canvas. The ‘rooms’ are sealed from the outside elements with cement or wood floors.
The Platinum level can be over the top with plunge pools and private room stewards. Each level (Gold, Silver, Bronze) will have a little less in facilities. All standards of permanent camps are powered by electricity or generators that are run when guests are out for the day. Most camps will have central group dining areas and beautiful lounges where everyone meets to discuss the days events with your choice of beverage in hand.
Semi Permanent (Seasonal) Tented Camps
Born Free offers true mobile camps as well as seasonal or semi-permanent camp. Semi-permanent camps are still mobile but are set-up in prime areas for the entire season. They are not moved on a daily basis. They have no permanent structures or swimming pools. Since the camps are mobile the equipment is lighter weight in furnishing. Power is by solar and generators. There are Platinum level Semi Permanent camps. Each recommended camp will have simple bathroom facilities including flush toilets and hot showers. Hot-showers are general on an order basis, but maybe limited to 5-7 minutes. The experience, even for a few nights, is one you will long remember.
